DAN F. OAKES
Dan F. Oakes was first exposed to eminent domain, redevelopment, and public land acquisition and use during his years as a journalist, prior to attending law school. As a journalist, he established and maintained government contacts at the municipal, county, state, and federal levels and developed the research, writing, and communication skills that he found invaluable in law school and legal practice.
He graduated cum laude from the California State University at Fullerton with a B.A. in English, then obtained his juris doctorate from the UCLA School of Law, where he worked on the Entertainment Law Review, and participated in the Moot Court program and the 1L Moot Court program. As a natural outgrowth of his pre-law-school work, Mr. Oakes worked at the law firm of Sullivan, Workman, & Dee in Los Angeles full-time during the summers between his law school years, and also on a part-time basis during his second year of law school. At Sullivan, the vast majority of his work was related to eminent domain/inverse condemnation matters, including cases at the trial and appellate levels, where he was able to use his researching and writing skills, as well as his knowledge of local municipal politics.
Following his admission to the California State Bar, Mr. Oakes worked at Douglas & Garey before joining California Eminent Domain Law Group.
Mr. Oakes is also a magician member of Hollywood's world-famous Magic Castle, a United States Chess Federation rated expert, an American Contract Bridge League Silver Life Master, a National Scrabble Association member, and a tournament poker player.
Mr. Oakes is licensed to practice in California State, Federal, and Appellate Courts.
